No Dumping

Per Sec. 6:422 of the Baton Rouge Code of Ordinances, it is illegal to establish or permit the establishment of a private dump on any public property or on any property that is privately owned or controlled within the parish, with the exception of industrial areas as defined in the Plan of Government, without first having obtained a permit for such operations from the City-Parish. Violations of this ordinance are subject to significant fines and penalties. If the City-Parish or its agents identify the owners of any garbage, trash, refuse or rubbish material dumped or discarded at any site other than the City-Parish Landfill or other duly approved waste disposal site, the owner of the illegal dumping has 24 hours to clean the site and haul the material to the City-Parish Landfill at his or her expense.

In areas where “No Dumping” signs are posted, the owner of any garbage, trash, refuse or rubbish material – where the owner can be identified – is responsible to clean the entire “No Dumping” site at his or her expense and haul the material to the City-Parish Landfill within 24 hours of notification and will be subject to the same penalties and fines outlined in Sec. 6:420 of the Code of Ordinances, which can include up to $500.00 per violation and/or up to 180 days in jail for each violation.
