Litter

The improper disposal of litter poses a danger to public health and is, therefore, taken very seriously by the City-Parish.

The Baton Rouge Code of Ordinances recognizes litter to be any kind of garbage or waste that may contribute to this public health danger. Examples of this include: Fruit peelings, dead animals, abandoned automobiles, industrial wastes, paper, boxes, cigarettes, cans and bottles, yard clippings, leaves, wood, glass, nails, tacks, wire, bedding, crockery, plastic, tires, roofing shingles and more.

Private property owners are responsible for the maintenance of their property, and will be held accountable for the removal of all litter.

If you notice litter that needs to be picked up in the City-Parish public right-of-way or on private property, please contact 3-1-1 to report the issue.

For more information about this policy and what is considered to be litter, see Section 6 of the Baton Rouge Code of Ordinances.
