Traffic Calming

The goal of traffic calming is to slow vehicular traffic and, in some cases, discourage drivers from using certain roads by altering the design of the road and introducing obstacles to make the path more difficult for vehicles to navigate. As a result, motorists are forced to drive more slowly and carefully. There are dozens of techniques for this, ranging from narrowing the roadway to creating medians, allowing on-street parking or installing speed bumps.

To request a traffic calming study in your area, please contact the Traffic Engineering Division at (225) 389-3246.  For more information on traffic calming, please visit https://www.brla.gov/346/Traffic-Calming.
