Gravel Drive Issues

If you are looking to make any excavations below the adjacent street level for the purpose of removing dirt, sand, gravel or any other substances in the soil of any premises for commercial purposes, please note that it is unlawful to do so without having first met several criteria for enclosure and safe-keeping of the area. Please refer to Sec. 13:1006 of the Baton Rouge Code of Ordinances for more information.

No cuts shall be made in any street, sidewalk, curb or neutral ground of the City-Parish by any person for the purpose of service to any property abutting on or near the street, without first making application to and obtaining a permit from the Subdivision Engineering Office. In addition, any cuts and the repair thereof for graveled streets require permit fees and specific procedures for doing so, which are outlined in Sec. 2:130-134 of the Code of Ordinances.

City-Parish policies involving the act of paving or maintaining gravel streets are outlined in Sec. 1:606 of the Code of Ordinances. The Subdivision Engineering Office is the City-Parish agency tasked with overseeing the adherence of gravel drives to City-Parish and Unified Development Code (UDC) standards. For more information, please contact the office at (225) 389-3198. Or, if you need to report an issue involving an existing or under construction gravel drive, please contact 3-1-1.
