Sewer Odor Issues
Although the City-Parish Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) Program has instituted a number of upgrades at and nearby wastewater facilities targeted at odor reduction and elimination, the potential still exists for sewer-related odors to emanate from treatment facilities and related wastewater infrastructure.
The improper dumping of hazardous waste or toxic materials may also influence sewer odors and/or the proper functioning of wastewater facilities, as well as lead to potential contamination. If you notice an odor that seems to be due to nearby wastewater facilities, please contact 3-1-1 and report the nature of the odor, your location and any other details you can provide such as sewer construction projects that may be taking place near your location or the vicinity of the City-Parish’s two wastewater infrastructure to your location.
